I know I’m quoting the title to Olaf’s song in the movie frozen. If you don’t know Olaf is a snowman who wishes to see what summer is like.
My daughter and her family can tell you… it’s hot. It’s hot in Dallas, Tx watching a lacrosse tournament. My daughter-in-law and my grandson can tell you… It’s hot in Nashville, TN watching a baseball tournament. Olaf I just gotta let the cat out of the bag. You would melt in summer.
June has arrived. School is out. Let the summer festivities begin. Here we go a swimming. Vacation Bible Schools here we come. Beaches let the waves roll in.
Summer can be a wonderful time to recharge. Let’s shift into summer mode. Let the fun begin. Let the blooms of summer flowers burst into the landscape.
”In Summer” plants grow because the sun shines on them and all that photosynthesis scientific stuff happens. Sunshine makes plants grow. Sonshine can make us grow. Job 25:3 Asks the question. “On whom does God’s light not shine?’
So often the busyness of life drains us through our many activities, but it seems like “In summer” some of those activities go away or at least slow down. Summer can be a time to recharge our batteries, if you will. We serve a God who never runs out of energy. He is more than the “Energizer Bunny.” God never gets tired and He wants to impart that energy to us.
“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.””
Matthew 11:28-30 BSB
We find rest for our souls when we walk in His ways.
“And whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear this command behind you: “This is the way. Walk in it.””
Isaiah 30:21 BSB
I find it interesting in the verse it says God’s command is behind me. What does that even mean? I stopped. I wanted to let that verse catch up to me. Sometimes in life I out run God’s direction. I miss the right path because I’m like my two year old grandson who likes to walk ahead of me and then misses the turn I want to take. I’m the two year old here. I out kicked my coverage when all along God is wanting to do something new in my life but I missed it walking too far in front of Him I didn’t hear His instructions.
This summer I want to wake up to the new thing God wants to do in my life, but to do that I must orbit the Son and let His Son shine into my soul. God restores my soul when His light shines into it.
May this summer season be my “In Summer” song. Let God fill me with His harmony. Let it be a season of returning, seeking, and longing for His Presence. Pursue God. And when the Fall begins who knows what my harvest season will look like. Only God knows. The possibilities are endless. With God life can be a cornucopia. He is leading me down paths of righteousness.
Life is draining. My strength is limited, but God’s is limitless. My strength is finite, but God’s is infinite. God does not sleep nor does He slumber.
