“For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6 KJV

It’s quiet in my house tonight. I don’t know why. It is a rare occasion for such quiet. I’m not use to it. Usually at this time I’m watching some television show, but not this night. I relish this stillness, and I’m walking into the silence.

This night I need a counselor.  I need Jesus and the prophet Isaiah called Him Counselor, Wonderful Counselor.

Haven’t you ever felt like that? You have so many thoughts clogging up your head and you don’t know which one to allow into the forefront. I have a “to do list” and it is long and distinguished. I have a dilemma and I don’t know what to do with it. I must tread lightly because a wrong turn and a wrong decision could cause great turmoil in my life.

December 1st is less than 24 hours away. Christmas is twenty five days away. Where did this year go? It’s time to focus on the real reason for this season.

This night I’m going to start focusing on the names of Jesus. I’m turning to the one I need most in this hour of prayer.  I need wisdom so I turn to the source of all wisdom. I need to talk to the One who sees the beginning to the end.

His name is Wonderful Counselor. The message bible says “Amazing Counselor.”

I like to chase out the definitions of words

Wonderful is the word “wonder”  meaning a feeling of surprise mingled with admiration, caused by something beautiful, unexpected, unfamiliar, or inexplicable- then add the suffix “ful” meaning full of.

Thus wonderful is being full of surprise and admiration because of something beautiful, unexpected, unfamiliar, or inexplicable. Yeah that pretty much sums up an encounter with Jesus.

The prophet Isaiah experienced such an encounter as he wrote out this verse. His thoughts were filled with a marvelous event in future time. God was filling his thoughts with an amazing event and an unfathomable occurance. God allowed Isaiah to see His One and Only Son come into this world full of the wisdom of the ages.

Isaiah saw Him as a Counselor, someone who gave the best advice ever.

Yes Jesus come sit with me in this quiet moment. Please tell me what to do. Amaze me with Your advice.

I need a silent night.
