Enthumeomai – “Mary did you know?”

“But Mary was treasuring up all these things in her heart and meditating on them.”

I cannot believe another year has come and gone.

How was 2015 for you?

What are your expectations for 2016?

As I reflect on all the people who participated in that first Christmas and all the verses I read, Luke 2:19 still resonates in my heart.  I had to look up the word “ponder.”

The Greek word for ponder is “enthumeomai.”  We get our word enthusiasm from this Greek word.  Literally it means – “in a state or condition,” intensifying a passionate response” – in a passionate frame of mind.  It refers to passionate supposing or surmising in a person’s mind and heart producing fervent, inner cogitation.

Websters dictionary – ponder, meditate, muse, ruminate, to consider or examine attentively or deliberately.  It implies a careful weighing of a problem.

Everything that had happened to her up to the shepherd’s visit, Mary passionately stored each memory in her heart.

How I wish I could have been a fly on the wall as Dr Luke interviewed her.

“Many have undertaken to compile a narrative about the events that have been fulfilled among us, just as the original eyewitnesses and servants of the word handed them down to us. It also seemed good to me, since I have carefully investigated everything from the very first, to write to you in an orderly sequence, most honorable Theophilus, so that you may know the certainty of the things about which you have been instructed.”

I wonder did Luke feel her passion as she recounted Gabriel’s visit?  Could he see the tears form in her eyes as she told of Jesus’ birth?

These are my thoughts as I close out this year.  I want to live like that.  I want to be a Mary.  I want thoughts of Jesus to ignite a passion in me to spread His gospel.

I close out 2015 with one last Christmas song.

“Mary did you know?”

Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy would one day walk on water?
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy would save our sons and daughters?
Did you know
that your Baby Boy has come to make you new?
This Child that you delivered will soon deliver you.
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy will give sight to a blind man?
Mary, did you know
that your baby boy will calm the storm with His hand?
Did you know
that your Baby Boy has walked where angels trod?
When you kiss your little Baby you kissed the face of God?
Mary did you know.. Mary did you know
The blind will see.
The deaf will hear.
The dead will live again.
The lame will leap.
The dumb will speak
The praises of The Lamb.
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy would one day rule the nations?
Did you know
that your Baby Boy is heaven’s perfect Lamb?
The sleeping Child you’re holding is the Great, I Am.
