Day 1 – The Prophecy Candle or The Candle of Hope

“Now there was a man from Jerusalem named Simeon who was righteous and devout. He was waiting on the CONSOLATION OF ISRAEL, and the Holy Spirit was on him.” Luke 2:25 NIV

“And again, Isaiah says”, “The Root of Jesse will spring up, one who will arise to rule over the nation, in Him the Gentiles will hope.” Romans 15:12 NIV

“For to us a child is born, for to us a Son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulders, and He will be called, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6 NIV

“His father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied: “Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has come to his people and redeemed them. He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭1:67-69‬ ‭NIV‬‬

So many names, so many promises, are wrapped up in God’s gift to the world.

Welcome to Advent 2016. I pray for each of you who are beginning this journey with me as we prepare our hearts in humble expectation for the miracle that Christmas really is. God sent His One and Only Son into our world as a light to guide us to our true salvation. Zechariah prophesied that Jesus would become the HORN OF SALVATION. Horn represents strength, might, and power. Jesus is all that and more. He is bigger than any thing that comes our way. From the first moments after sin entered our world God promised to the serpent, “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; He will crush your head, and you will strike His heel.” Genesis 3:14-15

Jesus came to crush the head of our enemy.

Simeon prophesied over Jesus as he held Him in His arms. He called Jesus the Consolation of Israel. That is exactly who He is. Jesus comes right up alongside of us and offers us aid. He comforts us and encourages us in the good times and the bad.

I sense that you are looking for something greater this Christmas season. I am too! I am praying for each of us to recognize God’s Presence in the midst of our circumstances. You may be living in chaos or going through hardships, or you may even just be enjoying all God has for you. Whatever season you are experiencing, I pray that God will make His Presence palpable to you. I pray you see God as you look at the Babe in the Manger this Christmas Season.

So join Kevin and I as we light a purple candle. The Candle of Prophesy, The Candle of Hope.

What are you hoping for?

How can you place all your hopes on Jesus like Mary, Zechariah, Isaiah, and Simeon did?

Today I light my purple candle because I am hoping and praying for a 5 year old little girl who is in Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN. She was diagnosed with Leukemia. And because Jesus is my Consolation of Israel, my Horn of Salvation, my Mighty God, I have hope this little girl will be healed.

I want to hear from you. I want to hear your stories. I want to hear your prayer requests so that I can pray alongside of you. You may be in a time of waiting as I am. Let’s pray together to THE CONSOLATION OF ISRAEL.

At the end of this post you will see the reply box. Just type out your story there and then click the small box underneath and you will be able to subscribe to my website and join in the conversations.

Merry Christmas everyone!

  1. I’m also praying for our friend at Saint Jude’s that she will be healed and have a testimony that changes other people’s lives.

I also pray that this candle of hope reaches our nation and that we can come together being united instead of a country so divided.

That as I sit here in a time of waiting, that God would fill me with His presence. Father bring this family member back home.
