What do you do with Saturday

What do you do with Saturday while you are waiting on Sunday?

I know what the Jewish religious leaders and the Roman authorities did:

”The next day, the day after Preparation Day for Passover, the chief priests and the Pharisees went together to Pilate. They said to him, “Our master, we remember that this imposter claimed that he would rise from the dead after three days. So please, order the tomb to be sealed until after the third day. Seal it so that his disciples can’t come and steal the corpse and tell people he rose from the dead. Then the last deception would be worse than the first!” “I will send soldiers to guard the tomb,” Pilate replied. “Go with them and make the tomb as secure as possible.” So they left and sealed the stone, and Pilate’s soldiers secured the tomb.“
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭27‬:‭62‬-‭66‬ ‭TPT‬‬

I know how Jesus’ death affected the crowd:

”The crowds that had gathered to observe this spectacle went back to their homes, overcome with deep sorrow and devastated by what they had witnessed.“
‭‭Luke‬ ‭23‬:‭48‬ ‭TPT‬‬

What did the disciples do? I know they were scared. Most of them deserted Jesus when He needed them most. Some had kept vigil:

”But standing off at a distance were some who truly knew Jesus, and the women who had followed him all the way from Galilee were keeping vigil.“
‭‭Luke‬ ‭23‬:‭49‬ ‭TPT‬‬

I’m imagining none of them slept much while reliving the nightmare they had witnessed that day. The whole of Jerusalem was in shock over the events of Friday.

Did the disciples regather in that upper room? There are only 11 now that Judas the betrayer took his own life. Did the remaining pray as Jesus taught them?

”After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.“
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭9‬-‭10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

We read Jesus’ death from our side of the Resurrection. We know what happens Sunday morning, but try to live it from their side of Resurrection.

Their beloved Rabbi had been paraded up Calvary Hill beaten and bloodied beyond recognition. They heard the thud as Jesus’ cross was slammed into the earth. They felt the deep darkness and the earth shake as He breathed His last breath.

Their tears flooded the street in agony as they watched:

”After this, Joseph from the city of Ramah, who was a secret disciple of Jesus for fear of the Jewish authorities, asked Pilate if he could remove the body of Jesus. So Pilate granted him permission to remove the body from the cross. Now Nicodemus, who had once come to Jesus privately at night, accompanied Joseph, and together they carried a significant amount of myrrh and aloes to the cross. Then they took Jesus’ body and wrapped it in strips of linen with the embalming spices according to the Jewish burial customs. Near the place where Jesus was crucified was a garden, and in the garden there was a new tomb where no one had yet been laid to rest. And because the Sabbath was approaching, and the tomb was nearby, that’s where they laid the body of Jesus.“
‭‭John‬ ‭19‬:‭38‬-‭42‬ ‭TPT‬‬

Saturday was silent. His followers felt as if gut punched. The authorities were searching for them. Their lives were also in danger. They had listened to Jesus’ teachings and His warnings, and now they were living them. What were all His promises? How to process Saturday?

What do we do with Silent Saturday? What do you do when your world is destroyed and your life is devastated? We hold onto His Promises and we wait for Sunday.
