The conversation that changed my life – “The Flying Spider”

Lucas gasped, “La, stop!” Now this is the same grandkid that found a snake in my pool. I have a tendency to heed his warnings of impending peril to my body. “What is it Lucas?” “A flying spider!” Say what? I scratched my head. “How big and where?” I asked this little man. “It’s right in front of you. Your about to walk right into it. Don’t you see it?” “No Lucas. I don’t see it.” Then it occurred to me; I should stoop to his level. I need to view my landscape from his vantage point. On my knees, “Oh yeah there it is, Lucas. It’s not a flying spider. It just seems that way. That spider is  spinning a web,” I explained as I gazed at the tiny spider. I took Lucas’ hand and led him around the new spun web and away to safety.

Spiritual truths taught to me by my grandsons number ??? I’ve lost count.

Nicodemus, you are walking right into the spinning web of a flying spider.

That night Jesus was teaching Nicodemus salvation’s truth using physical metaphors.

“Very truly I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things? No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven – the Son of Man. Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.” For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son in to the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.” John 3:11-18 NIV

Jesus stooped to our level to explain to us the true way of salvation. Jesus explained the one and only way back to our Father. The truth of salvation is from God’s vantage point.

Lucas could see danger when I couldn’t because of his vantage point. Jesus knows of our dangerous paths that lead to eternal separation from God because of His vantage point. He came from God the Father. He came from heaven to show us the way.

I had to stoop so I could explain to Lucas the truth of the flying spider. Jesus had to stoop to our level so He could explain to us the truth of God’s ways.

I was able to lead Lucas around the vicious flying spider because I stooped to his level and saw what he saw. Jesus is able to lead us away from our impending doom of eternal separation from the One who created us because He stooped to our level and died a sinners death on a cursed tree. He beat death, hell, and the grave on the day He rose again.

Take Jesus’ hand and let him lead you away from the sticky web of flying spiders and eternal separation.
