”And when eight days were completed for the circumcision of the Child, His name was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb.“
Luke 2:21 NKJV
Every child needs a name. A name one a birth certificate gives validation a child has been born into this world.
Today was Jesus’ naming day. I love how the New King James Version capitalizes CHILD and then adds the identifier THE. The word the indicates the following noun is unique and only one. The CHILD, God’s one and only Son. Before Mary and Joseph gave Jesus his name Jesus came as the Only Child who could bring salvation to the world.
But now on this eighth day as was Jewish ordinance, Jesus was circumcised and given His earthly name. Jesus came to fulfill the Law. His parents would have named Him YESHUA the name above all names.
”And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus.“
Luke 1:31 NKJV
”But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”“
Matthew 1:20-21 NKJV
Jesus, Yeshua, it means Savior. God saves. The Lord is my salvation.
In biblical days a persons name signified a characteristic of that person. Names had meaning, and because Jesus character was so magnanimous Jesus had many names.
”For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.“
Isaiah 9:6 NKJV
Jesus is all that and more.
LIGHT OF THE WORLD
SON OF GOD
SON OF MAN
